Microneedling treatments Q&A
What is Microneedling? How does it work?
Microneedling is an advanced, aesthetic procedure (also known as collagen induction therapy) that uses microneedles to perforate the skin in order to stimulate new skin cells. This prompts collagen production, therefore filling in fine lines & deep wrinkles as well as evening out uneven skin tones and acne scarring. During the treatment, we are able to enhance our facials by offering clients a bespoke cocktail of powerful serums. These are absorbed into the deeper layers of the skin through the micro channels, therefore targeting areas where our clients most need it.
What are the benefits of Microneedling?
- Stimulates circulation, collagen and elastin production
- Can be tailored to each individual’s needs to combat specific concerns such as smoker lines, frown lines etc.
- Long-lasting results – without having to have Botox or fillers
- Dramatically increases the effectiveness and penetration of active ingredients in the serums which are applied to targeted areas of concern
- Medical grade titanium needles make it non-allergenic to human tissue
- Cost effective, compared to other resurfacing procedures
- Can be performed on all skin types
- It can be used on all areas of the body and face, including fragile skin around eyes, mouth, neck and décolleté
- It can be used for stretch marks on all areas of the body
How many treatments do I need, and how often can Microneedling procedures be repeated?
Microneedling can be repeated every 4-6 weeks. This allows new cells to come through, and for us to keep cellular production stimulated. Fantastic results can be seen after 1 sessions. For a deeper area of concern, it can take up to 6 sessions.
How long will the results last
Clients that opt for one facial will see results for a few months, clients that opt for a course of 3-6 facials will see results last from 12-18 months
Is Microneedling painful?
One of the key benefits of our microneedling treatment is that we can adjust the settings and tailor the treatment to any of our clients’ specific needs and comfort levels. For the more targeted treatments we offer, we apply a topical anaesthetic prior to the treatment, so we can perforate the skin at a lower depth, for optimum results.
What will I look like after the treatment?
With all our treatments, we can apply a cooling and deep hydration mask that helps to de-sensitise the skin, post-treatment. Depending on the treatment and the depth of the needles, some people will experience redness and mild swelling (similar to mild sunburn) for 24-48 hours, and there may be minimal pin-point bleeding and/or bruising. Within 1 week, you will notice that your skin is smoother and more radiant looking, but the full effects will be visible a few weeks after treatment, as new skin cell production has been boosted, and the cells regenerated.
What do I need to know for after the treatment?
For clients that have the Acne scarring or Deeper wrinkle treatments, we recommend that no make-up or other products are used on the skin for 24-48 hours until the skin has returned to its normal state. Thereafter, clients can start applying their recommended SPF moisturiser and normal products. At 3-5 days post-treatment, clients may notice that the skin starts to shed due to the increased turnover of new skin cells, so we advise the use of a gentle, light exfoliator to remove the dead skin. Then, 5-7 days post-treatment, you will be able to see beautiful, new, radiant skin. We recommend that clients do not sunbathe for 2 weeks pre and post-treatment, and continue to use an SPF on their skin throughout the year. We recommend the Helio care products.
Clients who have the Collagen Boost Facial will generally experience very little to no redness after the treatment and can continue with their normal facial skincare products 24 hours after the facial. We recommend that clients do not sunbathe for 2 weeks pre and post-treatment, and continue to use an SPF on their skin throughout the year
Is Microneedling suitable for me?
Microneedling is safe on all skin types as the epidermis is not damaged during the treatment. Microneedling can be used on sensitive and fragile areas, such as eyes, upper lip neck and back of hands which cannot be treated easily with other treatments. Microneedling is not suited to people who have used Roaccutane in the past 3 months, have open wounds, cuts or abrasions, are suffering from a skin infection, condition or herpes simplex in the area of concern, are pregnant or breastfeeding, have any history of keloid scars or poor healing wounds.
Can I have Microneedling in combination with other treatments, e.g. Botox or Laser?
You can use microneedling alongside other treatments to enhance your results. If Botox has been applied to the area, we would request that clients wait 2 weeks after their Botox treatment before starting microneedling. We offer laser skin tightening treatments at Strip, which also help to keep the collagen and elastin cells regenerating and firm its overall texture. Again, we would advise a 2-week interval post microneedling.
