Q: What is the difference between hot wax and strip wax?
A: Hot wax is spread thickly onto the skin and allowed to dry slightly before it is gently peeled away. This method is far less painful than most and pulls hair directly from the roots. The benefits include fewer in-grown hairs, less breakage and therefore longer re-growth periods. This wax also promotes skin hydration and is highly recommended for sensitive areas. Strip wax is recommended for thicker/less sensitive skin, for example - legs, arms, back, chest, and shoulders. A thin layer of wax is applied to the skin and is then removed using a paper strip. We offer organic and house strip wax.
Q: Why is Strip waxing recognised as a less-painful experience?
A: When we use our hot wax on sensitive areas, we first apply an essential oil to the skin which acts as a barrier between the wax and the skin. Therefore, the wax is able to shrink wrap around the hair and will not stick to the skin. (Less tugging results in less pain!) Our therapists are also trained in Strip's highly skilled technique to minimise discomfort.
Q: What is so unique about your wax?
A: The wax we use is sourced from Australia and is designed to promote skin hydration and care for the skin with various essential-oil based ingredients. Our wax also eliminates the “freshly plucked chicken” effect that many other waxes cause. Therefore, having to do a brazilian a good 24 hours before the hot date is now a thing of the past! Many of our clients also come in for upper lip and eyebrow waxing on the same day of their event and find they leave with little or no redness to the skin.
Q: How long should my hair be for waxing?
A: Our hot wax can grab hair as short as 1mm in length. Our strip wax can remove hair as short as 2mm. Everyone has a different growth cycle but we are generally able to wax areas that have been shaved one week earlier. However with larger parts of the body like arms/legs, we suggest leaving it three weeks before waxing. Clients that have not waxed/shaved for a long period of time need not worry as our therapists will trim the hair to a suitable length for waxing.
Q: What bikini waxes do you offer?
A: Basic bikini means the hair removed from the top and sides of bikini area.
G-string same as basic bikini however the top can be taken slightly higher with some hair removed underneath following the line of a g-string.
Brazilian removes all of the hair from underneath and leaves only a strip, thumb print or small trainge of hair in front (hair is also removed from the area between the buttocks).
Hollywood means everything off!
Q: What is the etiquette for the various types of waxing on offer?
A: Basic bikini: you will be given the option to wear our paper knickers or your own knickers G-string: (same as basic) but g-string knickers are recommended should you choose to wear your own Brazilian: we recommend that you remove your knickers however if you are not comfortable with this we will provide you with a paper g-string and the treatment may take slightly longer Hollywood: (same as above) *if you choose to wear your own knickers we cannot assume responsibility for any oil or wax spillage onto the fabric
Q: Can I still have a bikini wax when I am on my period?
A: Absolutely! You will need to wear a freshly changed tampon before going into your treatment. (you may use our loo beforehand to freshen up)
Q: I'm pregnant but I want a bikini wax. What do you recommend?
A: Waxing during pregnancy is very popular especially now that people know that our wax is less painful. Our therapists are trained to ensure that all parts of the body are waxed comfortably and safely. The Brazilian or Hollywood wax is a very popular treatment one week before the due date.
Q: Does it hurt?
A: Every person has different pain thresholds and so experience waxing differently, however with regular waxing most find it becomes easier as the hairs become thinner, lighter and sparser after a few treatments. Our specialised hot wax and expertly trained/experienced therapists make waxing as pain-free as possible. If you have a particularly low pain threshold a couple of Nurofen tablets half an hour before the treatment time tends to reduce pain.
Q: How long will the waxed area be hair free?
A: You may notice a small amount of regrowth after a week or so. It can take up to 4 treatments for your hair to get on a growth cycle that gives best results. To maintain your smooth appearance, we recommend regular waxing every 4 weeks.
Q: Is it done with discretion?
A: We can provide a towel that can be used to cover parts of the intimate area while waxing. The treatment does involve the client holding the skin in various places to help minimise discomfort but the therapist will lead you in this process.
Q: Will it be uncomfortable afterwards?
A: Since we use a very high quality wax and have highly skilled therapists our treatments should leave you with minimal discomfort. When the treatment is finished the therapist will ensure no wax or residue has been left on the skin. Since we use hot wax, skin will not be sticky (which can happen with strip wax).
Q: What after-care do I need to follow?
A: Keep the waxed area clean, and avoid heat and friction during the next 24 hours. This means:
- No hot baths or showers (warm water only).
- No saunas, hot tubs or steam treatments.
- No tanning (sunbathing, sunbeds or fake tans).
- No sport, gym work or other exercise.
- Avoid scratching or touching the treated area with unwashed hands.
- Avoid swimming in chlorinated pools.
- Do not apply deodorants, body sprays, powders, lotions or other products to the area, other than those recommended by your therapist for 24 hours.
Please note: some slight soreness, small bumps and redness are common and perfectly normal temporary reactions, particularly if this is your first wax. These symptoms should subside over 24-48 hours. If you experience persistent redness or irritation, or if you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us.
Q: What is your booking policy for male brazilian/hollywood waxing?
A: For first time clients we require a 50% deposit using either credit or debit card over the phone or cash in person. If you fail to provide 24 hours notice to cancel the appointment this deposit will not be refunded. We cannot temporarily hold bookings to wait for you to pay the deposit. We do not make exceptions on this policy.
Q: Will the therapist be male or female?
A: All of our therapists are female. Due to the nature of this treatment we must take into consideration the safety of our therapists and expect professional behaviour on the part of our clients. If at any point inappropriate comments or actions occur on the part of the client, the therapist will abruptly end the treatment. In these cases the client will be asked to leave the premises and payment in full will be taken from the card used to secure the booking. We would not rebook this client for future appointments and may notify the police if appropriate. The client will be asked to sign a form upon arrival declaring that they are aware of this policy.
Q: What is the difference between male Hollywood and Brazilian waxing?
A: As with women the Hollywood wax removes all pubic hair. Brazilian however leaves a strip (as wide or thin as you like) at the front. The therapist can give you advice as to which is the most popular while the treatment is being done. The buttock cheeks can also be waxed however there is an extra charge for this area.
Q: Can I bring a child or pet with me?
A: When coming for your appointment at Strip we ask that any Children coming must be supervised at all times and be restrained in either a buggy, capsule or be able to sit unassisted. Due to health and safety protocol we are not permitted to allow pets of any type at Strip (excluding Guide dogs).
